Welcome to Saved ("we," "our," or "us"). We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about how we collect, use, and share your information. This Privacy Policy explains our data practices for the Saved mobile application and related services.

By using Saved, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Information You Provide

Account Information:

Email address (required)
Name (optional)
Profile photo/avatar (optional)
Password (encrypted and stored securely by our authentication provider)

Dietary Preferences:

Dietary restrictions (e.g., vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, dairy-free, keto, paleo)
Ingredient allergies and foods to avoid (e.g., sesame, eggs, fish, shellfish, soy, tree nuts, peanuts)

Recipe Content:

Recipe titles, descriptions, and instructions you create or save
Ingredients lists
Recipe photos you upload or capture
Recipe URLs from which you extract recipes
Tags and categories you assign to recipes
Notes and modifications you make to recipes

Grocery Lists:

Grocery list names and items
Recipes associated with your grocery lists
Item categories and quantities

Chat Messages:

Questions you ask our AI assistant about recipes
Conversation history with our recipe chat feature

Device identifier (for rate limiting demo features)
Push notification tokens
Operating system and version (iOS/Android)

Usage Information:

Number of recipe extractions performed (for free tier limits)
Premium subscription status
Timestamps of account and content creation/modification

OAuth Authentication:

When you sign in with Google or Apple, we may receive:

To Process AI Requests:

Analyze recipe URLs and extract structured recipe data
Process food photos to identify and extract recipe information
Answer your questions about recipes through our AI chat feature
Intelligently merge and organize ingredients in grocery lists

To Manage Subscriptions:

Track your premium subscription status
Enforce free tier limits (10 recipe extractions per month)
Process subscription purchases through Apple App Store or Google Play Store

To Improve Our Services:

Understand how users interact with the app

3. How We Share Your Information

We share your information only in the following limited circumstances:

3.1 Third-Party Service Providers

Clerk (Authentication Service)

Purpose: User authentication and session management
Data Shared: Email, password (encrypted), name, profile photo, OAuth tokens

Convex (Database & Backend)

Purpose: Secure data storage and real-time synchronization
Data Shared: All user-generated content (recipes, grocery lists, preferences, chat messages)

OpenAI (AI Processing)

Purpose: Recipe extraction from URLs and photos, AI-powered recipe chat
Data Shared: Recipe URLs and webpage content, food photos, chat messages, ingredient lists
Model Used: GPT-5-mini
Privacy Policy: openai.com/policies/privacy-policy

Important: Your recipe content is sent to OpenAI for AI processing. OpenAI's data usage policies apply to this content.

RevenueCat (Subscription Management)

Purpose: In-app purchase and subscription management
Data Shared: User ID, subscription status, purchase information
Privacy Policy: revenuecat.com/privacy

Note: Payment card information is processed by Apple or Google, not by us or RevenueCat.

Expo Push Notifications

Purpose: Deliver push notifications to your device
Data Shared: Push notification token, user ID
Privacy Policy: expo.dev/privacy

3.2 Shared Recipes

When you choose to share a recipe using our sharing feature, the recipe content (title, description, ingredients, instructions, photos) becomes accessible to anyone with the share link. Shared recipes do not include your name, email, or other personal information.

3.3 Legal Requirements

We may disclose your information if required by law, legal process, or government request, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Saved, our users, or others.

4. Data Security

We implement reasonable security measures to protect your information:

Encryption: Passwords are encrypted. OAuth tokens are stored in secure device storage.
Secure Transmission: All data is transmitted over encrypted connections (HTTPS).
Authentication: Industry-standard JWT-based authentication.
API Security: API keys are stored server-side and never exposed to client devices.
Rate Limiting: Protection against API abuse and unauthorized access.

However, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security of your information.

5. Data Retention and Deletion

Account Deletion

You can delete your account at any time through the Profile screen in the app. When you delete your account, we permanently delete:

Your user profile (email, name, preferences)
All saved recipes
All grocery lists
All shared recipes you created

Note: Some data may be retained in backup systems for a limited period. Chat message history may be retained for service improvement purposes.

Shared Content

Recipes you have shared with others will be deleted when you delete your account. Recipients will no longer be able to access those shared recipes.

6. Your Privacy Rights and Choices

Access and Update

You can access and update your account information, dietary preferences, and ingredient avoids at any time through the Profile screen.

Push Notifications

You can opt in or out of push notifications through the Notifications settings in the app or your device settings.

Camera and Photo Permissions

You can revoke camera and photo library access at any time through your device settings. This will prevent you from uploading or capturing photos for recipe extraction.

Account Deletion

You can delete your account and all associated data through the Profile screen under "Danger Zone."

Data Portability

Currently, we do not offer automated data export. If you would like a copy of your data, please contact us at support@trysaved.com.

7. Children's Privacy

Saved is not intended for use by children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under 13, we will delete that information promptly.

8. International Users

Saved is operated in the United States. If you are located outside the United States, your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States. By using Saved, you consent to the transfer and processing of your information in the United States.

9. Third-Party Links

Saved may contain links to third-party websites or services (e.g., recipe source URLs). We are not responsible for the privacy practices of these third parties. We encourage you to review their privacy policies.

10. Analytics

We do not use third-party analytics services. We do not integrate with Google Analytics, Firebase Analytics, Mixpanel, Amplitude, or similar tracking services. We collect only the minimal usage data necessary to provide our services (e.g., recipe extraction counts for enforcing free tier limits).

11. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by:

Updating the "Last Updated" date
Posting a notice in the app
Sending an email or push notification (for material changes)

Your continued use of Saved after changes become effective constitutes acceptance of the updated Privacy Policy.
